How do I get Coached?

A good coach will listen to and focus only on you without judgement. You will be the creator of your solution. The Coach will hold you accountable and be there from start to finish to help you maintain momentum.

Telephone vs. face-to-face

Coaching is predominantly conducted by telephone. There are some very good reasons for phone coaching. It saves travel time, it means that we can work together from any corner of the globe and it creates a very focussed session. However, some clients prefer to meet and work face-to-face, particularly if they live locally. If you specifically request face-to-face coaching, this is carried out at the New Shoots Coaching office.

Length and frequency of sessions

Usually, you will call/meet at a pre-arranged time at weekly or fortnightly intervals for a one hour session with your coach.

Duration of coaching

To ensure that you get the maximum benefits from your coaching, a standard ‘programme’ involves 12 sessions running over approximately six months. It is unusual for a coaching process to last longer than six months without a break, but some clients prefer to continue coaching and work on new areas.

Session structure

After defining what you want from coaching and in specific areas of your personal or professional life in our first session, you will generate one or more goals which you can achieve by the end of the programme. You cannot hit a target that you cannot see, so this is your chance to create your perfect target! The coach will help you to decide on specific actions at the end of the first session which will start to move you in the right direction to realise those goals. You will work on these actions in your own time before the next session.

At the beginning of each subsequent session we will review the actions and their results, and discuss your progress and your feelings about what you have achieved. We will then work on any specific areas of your choice, whilst using specific but simple tools and techniques to help you remove any obstacles that are in the way. In each session, we will concentrate on a particular theme or topic, designed to maximise your success.

At the end of the session, you will be set further tasks to achieve before the next meeting.

Feeling the benefits

You will often start to feel the benefits of the Life Coaching approach from the first session but it usually takes between 4-6 weeks to start achieving the desired results.
